Managerial Leadership

Leadership is not just a role restricted to a chosen few - many people can become effective leaders with the right amount of training and coaching.

Lower level professional positions typically call for people to do things themselves. In a more senior position, however, things get done by directing others. Regrettably, many companies promote successful middle managers into their new roles without providing them any direction or preparation on how to be effective in their new duties.

To help executives understand their current management styles and provide them with a mental picture of what their new responsibilities look like, WICG runs a four-day leadership development program followed by one-on-one executive coaching support focused on leadership styles and the organizational climate they create. By organizational climate, we mean "how does it feel to work here?" In companies with healthy climates people put more effort into their work, and managers are more effective and successful.

Gaining management abilities take time, so WICG's managerial leadership programs take place over a period ranging from six months to a year to reinforce what executives are learning inside and outside the classroom. This enhances their ability to immediately apply what they are learning abut how to create a healthy organizational climate as well as their emotional intelligence - the conscious ability to manage one's feelings and emotions and, in so doing, manage relationships with others. This skill is widely considered as the most important competency of people in positions of influence, that is, true and effective leaders.
